Social Re-orientation: Prerequisite For Economic Growth - Bassey

The speaker of Akwa Ibom House of Assem bly (AKHA) has stated that proper social re-orientation was a necessity for economic development.  Mr Aniekan Bassey said this at the official launch of Mkpo Amaa Change (Things Have Changed), a new creed championed by the Akwa Ibom Social Re-orientation Desk.  He maintained that there was need for a proper mental and moral re-orientation, especially among youths, pointing out that such moves would result in more economic boom. "Social re-orientation is the most important issue for economic renaissance, success is not about how you work, but about your mentality: Success has a lot to do with social reorientation, Bassey stated.  The speaker commended the special assistant to the governor on social re-orientation, Mr Ekpeno Gold, for the initiative, expressing dismay at the spate of negative messages about Akwa Ibom State, particularly on the social media.  Bassey called on social media users to project the image of the state positively, as well as create publications that will foster more growth and developments in the state. He lauded the Akwa Ibom Social Re-orientation Desk for their campaign against rape and cultism in the state, adding that the 7th Assembly was also involved in the fight against the menace in the state. Gold thanked the speaker for being a good model for young people within and outside the state, describing the new creed "Mkpo Amaa Change as a moral, mental and attitudinal initiative that will also be used to showcase the achievements of Gov Udom Emmanuel- led administration.  The governor's aide stated that the Social Re-orientation Liaison Office was set up to enhance campaigns against rape, defilement, child abuse, vandalism, drug abuse, cultism, armed robbery and other societal vices and crimes handled by his office.  The event featured the formal unveiling of "Mko Amaa Change brand and the opening of the Akwa Ibom Social Re-orientation Liaison Office located at 56 Enwe Street in Uyo.
